Rules and Policies
Library Rules
The following behavior is prohibited in the
Library:
- Loud or disruptive behavior.
- No outside food or drink.
- Use of tobacco products.
- Littering.
- Loitering.
- Excessive wandering from floor to floor.
- Rudeness to other patrons or Library personnel.
- Sleeping.
- Abusing books, materials, equipment, or furniture.
- No shirt and shoes.
- While cell phone use is not prohibited, as a courtesy to others
we ask that patrons set their cell phones to vibrate or silent while
they are inside the Library. The Library reserves the right to ask
patrons to leave the premises if cell phone usage interferes with
the patronage of others.
After the first warning, offenders of these
rules will be asked to leave. For the safety and well being of young
children, children six (6) years old or younger should be accompanied by
an adult when using the Library. Children under 14 years of age may not
use the Library for more than two hours without the adult supervision of
a parent or legal guardian. For traffic safety reasons, children may not
wait in the Lobby or parking
lot for their rides. Parents are requested
to park their cars and come into the Library to pick up their children.
Circulation Policies
-
Library cards are free to all residents of
Georgia. Persons who attend school, own property or are
employed in Georgia are eligible for
a free PINES card. Patrons
of both PINES and non-participating Georgia public libraries may
receive a PINES card. Users from non-participating Georgia
libraries shall have the same privileges as PINES users. Most
PINES cards are valid for 2 years.
- Proper identification showing current residence is required
to register for a library card.
- Property owners who do not reside in Georgia may be required
to show proof of ownership, such as a tax bill or deed. Persons
employed in Georgia or attending school in Georgia may be
required to show proof of employment or enrollment.
-
Out-of-state cards are available to
persons living outside Georgia who do not meet the above
criteria for a $25 annual fee, payable at the time the card
is issued.
- Signing a PINES card application denotes acceptance of
responsibility for lost or damaged materials.
- There is no minimum age for a child to receive a PINES
card. A parent or legal guardian may register a child. Parent
or
guardian must show proper ID to register a child. A parent
or guardian must sign the application for all children under 18.
- Proper identification must be presented to register.
- A library card is required in order to check out materials.
- An applicant for a new card is required to provide proper
ID, which includes current local address. Acceptable ID for
receiving a PINES card (3 choices): a) photo ID showing current
local address, OR b) photo ID and one item from approved list
(see below) showing current, local address (if photo ID does not
have correct address), OR c) TWO (2) items from approved list
showing current, local address. Acceptable ID includes valid
driver's license, valid voter registration card, checks with
pre-printed addresses, a utility bill, tax receipt or other
piece of mail that shows the user's name and present address.
- Applicants for a card must
complete and sign an application form, available at any PINES
participating library's circulation desk.
- Parents or guardians of children under the age of 18 must
sign their child's application.
- The card issued at the time of application is a permanent card.
When the card expires, the patron should keep the card and bring it
to the library to be updated. Lost or stolen cards may be replaced
for a charge of $2.00.
- Patrons should present their library card each time materials
are checked out. Inform library staff of changes in address/phone
number(s). Report library card theft/loss immediately. Do not lend
the card. A patron's card will be blocked, and no services may be
obtained with it if the patron has 10 or more overdue items, and
owes $10.00 or more in unpaid fines and/or fees.
- Most items have a 2-week checkout period and may be renewed for
two (2) additional periods, for a total of six (6) weeks. Items on
Hold may NOT be renewed. Patrons should provide their name
AND card number PLUS the names of all materials checked
out when renewing items by phone. Additional identification of the
caller may be required. Items cannot be renewed with name only.
- Overdue fines for most materials are $.10 (ten cents) per day
per item. Patrons will be charged the cost of the item PLUS a
$10.00 (ten dollar) fee for each item lost.
- All materials checked out on a patron's card, all overdue fines
on those materials, and all damage to those materials are the
responsibility of the CARDHOLDER.
How do I place a hold or
renew items online?
To renew items or place
holds online, access the PINES
online catalog (Evergreen). You will be prompted to enter your User ID
(library card number) and PIN. Contact your local PINES library if you
do not yet have a PIN. In the event of a problem, please contact your local
PINES library for further assistance. Unfortunately, privacy concerns
mean that we cannot give out your PIN number over the phone. |
